I try to be as pragmatic as necessary to indulge my idealism. Were I to have my way, I would forsake all material practicality inasmuch as it conflicted with my dreams. I do not believe this makes me extremist, it makes me an idealist.
It should be obvious to every adult of sufficient spiritual maturity that this philosophy is in alignment with our natural state. We are fallen beings, beings that at one time had no need to work for neither our enjoyment nor survival. Before the fall, one hundred percent of our time was spent pursuing spiritual, emotional and intellectual endeavors, there were no such things as practical necessities. All of our needs were provided for as a benefit of our design and perfect harmony with nature. We were all dreamers in Eden and at our ultimate best. We were truly free in every way possible, mind, body and spirit.
Can you fault someone for gravitating back to that original state?
Material needs generate practical concerns and give birth to ambitions that anchor one in the natural. It is for this reason that those who truly wish to explore idealism eventually liberate themselves from material trappings, one must divest from this world to see beyond it. Make no mistake about it either, this is not the world we were originally designed to inhabit and the mature spirit intrinsically knows that. The mature and healthy spirit yearns for a return to it’s natural state and home, leading such a one to dream in a world of ideals. That spirit yearns to be free once more.
If you are such a person who knows, consciously or otherwise, you most likely won’t fit in. You will be different. People will see this light within you, they will recognize it as something to either be embraced or shunned. They will come to understand that you have a knowing quality about you, a sense of calm that is more than mere demeanor. Some call it an aura, others simply a glow. Animals will be especially attuned to this as they can see into the spiritual realm far easier than most of us. They will recognize on a conscious level the energy that your spirit is putting out. Fellow humans, not so much.
One interesting thing about this level of awareness is that it appears to be genderless. More accurately stated, in our original states our genders were in perfect harmony with one another, there were no divisions nor conflicts between male and female, only synchronicity. Such harmony gives the appearance and effect of genderlessness since the two function harmoniously as one, separate yet equal.
I am quite happy with my loincloth and no longer desire anything more material than that, my desires encompassing “being” rather than “having”. The only thing I now wish to possess more of is truth and knowledge, wisdom if I were to so dare but again, wisdom consorts with the practical.
I will be practical insomuch as my ideals require me to be.
