I used to make candles like the ones pictured above. The place that I worked only made Christmas themed candles for the period that I worked there, Candy Cane candles to be exact. The ones above are probably made by the very same manufacturer that I used to work for but if not they are a good example nonetheless.
I began working here while still in high school and my best friend recommended me for the job. It was a small craft shop run by two partners who were former “Hippies”. They had mostly left their flower child past behind them but were still very cool. One partner was a Physicist by profession and handled the technical aspects of production while the other guy did everything else. They would hire anyone who could do the work which lead to some fairly interesting times whenever their judgement in character failed them. Some of every type of person came through that tiny one room shop and it helped to lighten up what would otherwise have been an extremely boring job. The boring aspect of the work was not lost on the senior partner, who compensated for it by paying extra well. I wish that I had known the true value of money back then because I would have both saved and done more with it but, youth typically comes with foolishness.
The building that the shop was located in is supposed to be one of the oldest industrial buildings in Berkeley, California. I think the thing is almost two hundred years old. There were all types of businesses operating out of this brick and mortar complex ranging from yoga studios to piano repair. Generally, the place housed mostly artisan manufactures, no food preparation nor heavy industry. Our shop was next do to a piano repairman and tuner who long after I had stopped working there, committed suicide. His name was Sheldon (no relation to me, I would NEVER commit suicide).
Sheldon was Caucasion with a full head of white hair and a beard. He was nice mostly, but could become very angry if the noise comming from our shop became too loud. Mind you, candlemaking doesn’t really make any noise (it’s just wax after all) so he kind of got the reputation of being a grown up spoiled brat. Our only outlet was to talk and play music, I guess that sometimes the music got too loud for Sheldon at times but come on, there was a carpenter around the corner who was way louder than us. Maybe he would get mad when he had to tune a piano and needed absolute quiet, but the carpenter would make way more noise when running his power planer. Sheldon’s dead now so I guess I’ll never know.
My enduring memory of Sheldon is when he gave me and my friend a ride in the sidecar of his vintage Triumph motorcycle. It was the first and only time that I had ever ridden in one and remains so to this day. The sensation of speed and acceleration is so much greater than when ridding on the back of a bike since you are totally open air and close to the ground. surprisingly the ride was comfortable, if not a little scary. You instinctively know however, that if there is ever an accident at any speed you will be a goner. No protection whatsoever. I remember skimming above the ground, feeling every bump and being buffeted mercilessly by the wind. I looked up at Sheldon at one point and thought to myself, “I never would have imagined that this guy had it in him. Humpf. He actually looks like some sort of daredevil in those goggles up there, without a care in the world.” Not in my wildest dreams would I ever have thought that he would do what the papers said he did but then again, the same could be said for Robin Williams. Must have been the artist in them, I suppose…
I know that this post is supposed to be about making candles but the truth is, candle making is really kind of boring. You don’t do much except stand in one place all day scraping raw candle sticks with a butter knife that has a notch machined into it. Then, you hang the candle stick by the wick with an alligator clip on a board with twelve hooks and then, dip the whole dozen into a steel drum full of melted wax. Boring, right? So this is why I’m trying to spice up the tale with more interesting highlights, like the 89 Loma Prieta Earthquake.
I rode out the 89 quake in the old, old brick building that you see above. I don’t panic, never have if memory serves correctly. Not even when I was almost choked out by a cop with a towel (tortured). I actually had a smile on my face because I thought I was finally going to see God. Well, let me tell you, when that quake hit, I PANICKED. I was standing at a scraping station in the back of the shop finishing candles with some new employees that had just been hired. One new hire was a young Caucasion guy and the other was a very sweet Japanese girl. Just another boring day in the candle shop, or so I thought. I’m flipping candles and scraping away as usual when all of a sudden I feel a smooth and gentle undulation under my feet. I start rocking with the motion and am enjoying it. I instantly recognize what is it because I live in California and have experienced more earthquakes than I can remember. I look up to see if anyone else is aware of whats happening but the two new hires are concentrating so hard on the candles, thy don’t feel a thing. I feel superior over them in every way. Being superior comes with responsibility so I figured I’d better alert them to what is happening before they realize it themselves, and save them some trauma. Talk them through it.
Just as I begin to say, “We’re having an earth….” BAM! The most violent jolt I’ve ever felt from one of these shakers seized the building and ravaged it. I don’t know where the sound came from but it sounded like a tremendous explosion, like a huge bomb went off right inside the shop. You ever see those cartoons where the character gets scared and runs around in circles? Thats what I did. Funny thing, panic, your legs just start moving before your brain tells them to. A new experience for me. When it dawned on me how silly I must look, I forced myself to think. “Now what did all those school drills say to do in the event of an earthquake? Get under a table or door frame?” I was already heading for the exit, which was right behind me. Just as I got past the doorway I remembered that we were in an old brick building and there were suspended power lines in the street. Sure, the building had sheetrocked hallways but once you cleared those you were under nothing but old brick and glass. I stopped in the doorway and braced inside of it with my arms and legs.
The noobies followed me as I ran but could not get past me blocking the doorway. I blocked their paths intentionally so that they would be forced to stay in the doorway also. For a minute, the guy look like he wanted to push me out of the way but then I guess it dawned on him what I was doing. He huddled underneath my arm and I made room. The Japanese girl was absolutely terrified, she squated at my feet and the noobie guy helped scoot her under the frame. The shaking continued and the old building made all sorts of loud protests. Things sounded like they were breaking all over the place, the walls were dancing and everything else not secured was swinging wildly. The lights went out and the emergency battery powered backups came on. The hallway went dark.
When the shaking stopped, the girl was sobbing and whimpering. The noob guy looked confused. I was shaken and humbled, I just knew we were going to find catastrophe outside. Our boss found us and was totally calm, he was such a nice guy. He immediately started to console the girl and told the rest of us to go home. I think he told us to take the next day off too. When I did return to work, the noobies were nowhere to be found. Me and the boss joked about that, we both thought that was so funny. He did feel guilty about the girl though. When he tried to call them they wouldn’t even answer their phones. Their first day had been their last day and I can’t say that I blame them either.
SYNCHRONICITY UPDATE 08/24/14
Magnitude 6.1 Earthquake Centered Near American Canyon, California on August 24th 2014
Apparently, my psychic senses are on high alert once again.
First, let me say that I hope no innocents were harmed due to this rather large earthquake, you have my prayers and sympathies. I have not yet heard of anyone being injured, and that is a blessing. All the property in the world isn’t worth an injury nor a death. For many, I know it will be difficult and painful to recover from this but as long as you are uninjured, you are blessed.
As I’ve said in previous posts I get warnings, messages and have supernatural experiences quite regularly. I think they call it being a “sensitive”. Anyway, just as I had an urge to write about my experiences working at Kaiser Permanente (My time working at Kaiser Permanente Claims August 16, 2014) only to see the “health care” provider in the news four days later concerning Ebola, the same thing has happened yet again.
I posted “Eldon be nimble, Eldon be quick, Eldon finish that Candlestick!” on August 20, 2014 and prominently featured a recounting of my experience during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Sure enough, four days after that post we get shaken by a 6.1 earthquake centered near Napa and American Canyon, California.
Funny thing is, I have been complaining about the mainstream news media colluding with law enforcement to try and paint me as a bad person. The reasons for this is because I filed murder charges against PG&E, spoke at a public meeting with Senator Jerry Hill in which KTVU Channel 2 field reporter Tom Vacar attended. After the meeting, I handed Tom Vacar a flier about Jacqueline and Janessa Greig being murdered by PG&E. Mr. Vacar treated me like I had the Plague. You can read all about it on the blog that I created for the murdered mother and daughter.
PG&E pays for advertising on KTVU Channel 2 news therefore, they wish to protect one of their biggest sponsors. I have seen more narratives that relate to me on their news program since then, than you can shake a stick at. Gee, can we connect the dots?
Well lo and behold but whose voice do I hear reporting from the worst hit city in the Bay Area (Napa California) only a couple of hours later? Thats right, you guessed it, TOM VACAR. Come to find out, he lives up there with his family.
Then, another KTVU Channel 2 reporter calls in from Napa too, Mark Ibanez. This guy lives up there as well. He sounds anxious, both of them do.
Let us not forget that Napa is where some of the wealthiest people live, folks like the late Robin Williams. Let us also not forget that one of the signs listed in the Bible which foretells of impending doom are EARTHQUAKES.
Luke 21:8-12 King James Version (KJV)
8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.
9 But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.
10 Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:
11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
12 But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name’s sake.
Again, I am not celebrating the misfortune of any of those innocent people who just happen to live in Napa. They have had their world turned upside down and this is certainly a regrettable tragedy for them. Perhaps however, it is more than just that. Perhaps it is a warning as well. A warning from above.
Thousands of years ago, when God would get angry, the deal was this. Either the offending sinners repent of their ways and ask for forgiveness or, not only would they be punished, the entire city in which they resided would be destroyed. Banishment was a way for the innocent people of a city to avert the wrath of God since they were de facto harboring sinful criminals.
Napa and the surrounding area, I feel for you. I hope that those who do not deserve punishment quickly recover and learn from this.
For those who are liars and accessories to murder however, you do deserve this. You cannot disobey God unscathed.
As in the days of old, you have some cleaning up to do. While you are taking out the debris and trash you might consider cleansing yourself of some additional rubbish as well. The evil two legged variety that is, which has caused this wrath to be poured out upon your city and region.
Your pain and loss is but a taste of the judgement yet to befall us all. Shun and banish the evil within your midst for the sake of all who are decent people.
Our nation as a whole must do the same as well, before it is too late.
